Contractile response of intact and swabbed bladder. The contractile force was standardized on the basis of the cross-sectional area (mN/cm2) calculated from the strip weight and length. Every bladder was cut in half; one half was left intact and the other was swabbed. Note that there was significant difference between the contractile force in intact and swabbed preparations evoked by electrical or chemical stimulation (NEC = Neurally evoked contraction; *P < 0.05; n = 7 per group; paired t-test).
