1, mild	Individual inflammatory cells (< 100 cells/mm²)
2. moderate	Confluent sheets of inflammatory cells without tissue destruction or lymphoid follicle formation (100–500 cells/mm²)
3, severe	Confluent sheets of inflammatory cells with tissue destruction or lymphoid follicle formation (> 500 cells/mm²)

1, focal	< 10%
2, multifocal	10–50%

Grading scales used to score inflammatory changes in prostate and urinary bladder. The procedure for determination of grade and extent of inflammation was adapted from Inamura et al. [21]
